H. Upmann Propios – Edicion Limitada 2018
Vitola: Mareva Gruesa (Corona Extra) | Size: 46 ring gauge × 120mm (4¾″)
The H. Upmann Propios Edicion Limitada 2018 is a small cigar with an old soul measuring just 120mm in length with a refined 46 ring gauge, yet delivering a remarkably full and satisfying experience. It’s the smallest cigar ever released under the Edicion Limitada program, but don’t be fooled by its stature. In the world of Cuban puros, some of the finest moments come in smaller, well-aged formats.
Dressed in a dark, slightly rustic wrapper with an earthy sheen, the Propios carries the classic elegance of H. Upmann with a whisper of boldness. The pre-light draw is clean and firm, offering notes of **toasted walnut, cedar, and a trace of cocoa powder**. The aroma at cold is subtle **oak bark, aged tobacco, and a faint sweetness**, reminiscent of the wooden shelves of an old humidor.
Upon lighting, the first third reveals **woody tones of hickory and oak**, mingled with soft **dark chocolate** and a gentle **nutty undertone**. The draw is smooth and precise, offering a dense, aromatic smoke that clings to the palate without ever overwhelming it. The burn line stays razor-sharp, proof of careful rolling and aged leaves.
The second third builds on that foundation **notes of roasted peanuts and dry cacao** surface, supported by a creamy mouthfeel and a balanced, medium strength profile. The Propios is contemplative rather than aggressive, its evolution subtle but rewarding for those who pay attention. Each puff brings a soft crescendo of flavor, never shouting, always whispering with confidence.
As the cigar enters its final third, the flavor deepens slightly. **Peanut shell, charred cedar, and a soft mineral edge** emerge, accompanied by a finish that hints at sweet spices and leather. The smoke remains cool and refined to the end, with a long, elegant finish that lingers like the closing notes of a well-played bolero.
Aged for over two years prior to release, this 2018 Edicion Limitada embodies the balance between youth and maturity. Compact, flavorful, and richly Cuban, the Propios offers a memorable experience in under an hour perfect for an early evening aperitif or a quiet moment after a satisfying meal.
Pair with a **nutty Amontillado sherry**, **young Armagnac**, or even a **dark-roast espresso** for a pairing that complements its size and complexity. This is a cigar that proves sophistication is not measured in inches, but in detail.
For those who understand that great stories don’t need to be long only well told the H. Upmann Propios is a tale worth lighting.
