The Montecristo Churchills Habanos Anejados is part of the Habanos Anejados line premium Cuban cigars that have been aged after rolling, not just the tobacco. This 7 x 47 Churchill vitola was rolled in 2008 and left to mature in unbanded boxes for over five years before being reinspected and released in 2015, bearing a secondary “Anejados” band.
From the first draw, this cigar delivers a complex and evolving flavor profile: notes of sweet cedar, caramel, bubblegum, leather, and mushroom dominate early on, underpinned by earth and grainy toast. It’s full in flavor with a medium-to-full body, and strength that gradually builds toward medium-plus.
As it progresses, the sweetness fades, giving way to mushroom, raisins, and spicy cedar with pronounced pepper through the retrohale. While flavor cohesion improves in the latter thirds, so too does the harshness. Interestingly, the cigar regains sweetness bubblegum and salt after being relit, offering a more refined final stretch.
While the Montecristo Churchills Habanos Anejados doesn’t always deliver on construction consistency requiring touch-ups and relights it excels in delivering matured Cuban flavor with a unique aging concept. Ideal for aficionados who enjoy long, nuanced cigars, this Anejado release adds historical depth and flavor complexity to the Montecristo portfolio.
Released as a regular production cigar, it’s an intriguing option for those curious about post-roll aging in the Cuban tradition, and a fine candidate for extended humidor aging.
