Vitola: Forum (Petit Pyramid) | Size: 46 ring gauge × 135 mm (5⅜″)
Released as part of the Edición Limitada program in 2011, the Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Pirámides is a Petit Pyramid tailored for aficionados who appreciate a more nuanced, aromatic Cuban cigar. Crafted with tobacco aged for a minimum of two years, it offers a balance of complexity and smoothness, perfect for both novice and seasoned palates.
From the start, the cigar delivers rich and concentrated flavors with a cooling menthol and minty character on the cold draw. Initial puffs present a bold, salty edge which soon mellows into honeyed sweetness and soft wood notes. The first third transitions into a medium-bodied smoke with light spice and excellent floral aromatics.
In the second third, a pleasant graham cracker profile emerges, bringing added sweetness and structure. Earth and mineral notes provide depth, while smoke remains consistently flavorful, though slightly light in volume. The body remains just below medium, marked by layers of subtle complexity and finesse.
The final third turns a bit more robust, introducing coffee and mild spice while maintaining a smooth, clean finish. Construction is excellent throughout, with no burn or draw issues, though the bands were reported to be a bit loose.
The Short Hoyo Pirámides is a standout within the Edición Limitada line—aromatic, well-balanced, and richly nuanced. While slightly more expensive than some larger vitolas, its flavor complexity and aging potential make it a worthy addition to any humidor.
