International Cuban Dance Festival – Ritmo Cuba

Havana, the Birthplace of Salsa

Each April, Havana becomes the world’s dance floor as the International Cuban Dance Festival – Ritmo Cuba welcomes dancers, choreographers, teachers, and students from across the globe. For one week, the city where salsa was born opens its arms to the world, uniting people through rhythm, movement, and joy.

A Global Reunion of Rhythm

Over seven days, Havana hosts a whirlwind of energy: more than 100 hours of classes, three salons running simultaneously, and over 60 of the best salsa instructors from Cuba and abroad. The masters of every major salsa school in Havana gather here, along with international stars, to share their knowledge and passion.

The festival offers something for every level and taste:

  • Cuban Salsa and Rueda de Casino for tradition and community.
  • Reggaetón, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha, Hip Hop, and Kizomba for those who crave modern fire.
  • Rumba and Folklorico for those who want to connect with Cuba’s roots.

Each night, the learning turns into celebration as the festival spills into Havana’s hottest salsa clubs, where music, dance, and laughter carry on until dawn.

The Setting – Elegance Meets Energy

This great gathering takes place at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, the iconic five-star jewel overlooking the Malecón. Its gardens and halls have hosted legends of music, film, and politics, and during Ritmo Cuba, it becomes the heartbeat of salsa. From its terraces, you can look out over the ocean while hearing the rhythm of drums rising from Vedado’s streets.

My Ritual – Cigars and Rhythm

For me, dance and music always call for reflection once the night is done. After a long day of classes and an even longer night of dancing, I often step outside the Nacional’s gardens with a cigar in hand. During last year’s festival, I chose a Trinidad Vigía—compact, aromatic, and full of character. Its smoke mingled with the salt air from the sea, while couples returning from the clubs passed by still humming the melodies of salsa.

Another evening, after hours of Rueda and Rumba, I reached for the H. Upmann Sir Winston. Long, elegant, and refined, it gave me time to sit back, sip an aged rum, and let the rhythm of the day settle into memory. Cigars after dance are not indulgence—they are punctuation, a way of marking the story the day has written.

If you join us, I recommend stopping at our cigar shop before the festival. Whether you want something light for the afternoons or bold for the Havana nights, the right cigar will be your partner in reflection.

More Than Dance – An Immersion

The festival is not only about classes and performances. Sponsors like the Barclay Language Center offer Cuban-themed Spanish lessons, while La Casona del Son gives opportunities for private classes with Havana’s most charismatic salsa instructors. Many visitors extend their stay to dive deeper—learning the language, history, and culture that make Cuban dance so unique.

Through trusted partners, we can arrange travel agreements, guided tours, and cultural experiences. Imagine: mornings learning salsa, afternoons exploring Havana’s art and architecture, and evenings sharing cigars and rum with new friends from around the world.

An Invitation to Dance Havana

The International Cuban Dance Festival – Ritmo Cuba is more than an event. It is a celebration of movement, culture, and community. It is Havana opening its heart through rhythm.

So whether you are a beginner eager to take your first steps, or an experienced dancer looking to refine your style, I invite you to join us this April—or plan for the next edition. Dance through the streets of Havana. Learn from the masters. Lose yourself in the music.

And when the music pauses and the night grows still, light your cigar. Let the smoke curl into the Caribbean sky, carrying with it the rhythm of salsa, the laughter of friends, and the memory of Havana’s embrace.
