Vegas Robaina

Vegas Robaina: A Tribute to the Godfather of Cuban Tobacco

Launched in 1997, Vegas Robaina honors the legendary Alejandro Robaina—Cuba’s most celebrated tobacco grower. His Vuelta Abajo farm consistently yielded the island’s finest wrapper leaf, with over 80% accepted for Habanos production—a record that speaks to his mastery of the land.

Crafted Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga at Havana’s former Upmann factory, Vegas Robaina cigars offer a bold yet refined experience, rich with the essence of Cuban soil and Robaina’s legacy. Their smooth strength and aromatic complexity have made them a quiet favorite among seasoned smokers.

Two vitolas continue that tradition today: the balanced, robust Famosos, and the elegant, slightly tapered Únicos, each delivering depth and distinction worthy of the name they bear.

Vegas Robaina isn’t just a cigar—it’s a field, a family, and a legacy rolled in honor of a man who shaped Cuban tobacco history leaf by leaf.

Vegas Robaina CIGAR BRAND

Vegas Robaina is a prestigious Cuban cigar brand produced by the state-owned Habanos S.A.. Launched in 1997, the brand was created to honor Alejandro Robaina, widely regarded as the greatest tobacco grower in Cuba’s famed Vuelta Abajo region. Robaina’s farm consistently produced exceptional wrapper leaf, with over 80% of his tobacco selected for top-tier Habanos—far exceeding the industry average of 35%.

Named after his historic farm, Vegas Robaina includes standout vitolas such as Don Alejandro, Famosos, and Únicos. These cigars are Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga (entirely handmade with long filler) and produced at the former Upmann factory in Havana. Known for their smooth yet bold profile, these cigars have become a favorite among connoisseurs worldwide.

Robaina, born in Alquízar but raised in San Luis, took over his family’s plantation in 1950 and remained independent even after Cuba’s 1959 revolution. His family's cultivation of tobacco dates back to 1845, and the legacy has earned him the affectionate title “Godfather of Cuban Tobacco.” Robaina’s legendary status attracted global acclaim, and he spent years traveling the world as an ambassador for Cuban cigars, welcoming thousands of visitors to his farm annually.

While brands like Cohiba and Hoyo de Monterrey have used Robaina’s prized wrapper leaves, the exact blends remain a closely guarded secret. Robaina remains the only grower to have a Habanos brand named in his honor, a testament to his extraordinary impact on Cuba’s cigar heritage.
