Ramón Allones

Ramón Allones: A Pioneer of Power and Presentation

Founded in 1837, Ramón Allones stands as one of Cuba’s oldest and most influential cigar brands. It was the first to introduce branded boxes and cigar bands—innovations that reshaped the industry forever. Known for its bold, full-bodied blends, the brand earned its reputation not just through flavor, but through vision.

Still handcrafted at the iconic Partagás Factory in Havana, every Ramón Allones cigar uses long filler tobacco from the celebrated Vuelta Abajo region. These cigars are rich, complex, and deeply satisfying—crafted for those who appreciate strength with sophistication.

Key vitolas include the robust and beloved Allones Specially Selected, the commanding Gigantes, the modern and rare Allones No.2 (2019), and the flavorful compact gem Small Club Coronas.

Ramón Allones continues to be a benchmark for full-flavored Cuban cigars—bold in taste, rich in history.

Ramón Allones is one of the oldest and most respected cigar brands still in production today. Founded in 1837 by the Galician entrepreneur Ramón Allones, it is widely recognized for revolutionizing the way cigars were presented. Allones was the first to package cigars in decorated boxes bearing the brand's imagery and to use cigar bands—traditions that continue across the industry to this day.

Though often associated with Ramón and Antonio Allones in later accounts, the brand’s innovation in marketing and packaging helped establish its early fame. The iconic 8-9-8 cigar arrangement—three rows of 8, 9, and 8 cigars—is attributed to this pioneering house.

Ramón Allones eventually came under the ownership of the Cifuentes family, and production was moved to the legendary Partagás Factory in Havana, where the cigars are still handmade today. Notable vitolas like the Ramón Allones Specially Selected and Gigantes remain favorites among aficionados for their rich, full-bodied character.

After the Cuban government nationalized the tobacco industry in 1960, the brand continued under state ownership and remains under Habanos S.A., with cigars still crafted using long filler tobacco from the prized Vuelta Abajo region. While many original vitolas like the Coronas and the original 8-9-8 have been discontinued since Altadis acquired a stake in Habanos in 2001, Ramón Allones continues to enjoy a loyal following.

Since 2005, the brand has been a popular choice for Edición Regional releases, particularly in the UK and European markets. With its bold, complex profile and strong heritage, Ramón Allones remains a benchmark for full-strength Cuban cigars.
