Cohiba

Step Into the World of Cohiba

Cohiba is more than a cigar—it’s a legend. Its name traces back to 1492, when Columbus’s men encountered Cuba’s Taíno people and their sacred tobacco, calling it “Cohiba.” That moment lit the first flame in cigar history.

Officially founded in 1966, Cohiba was crafted for Cuban officials and heads of state, including Fidel Castro himself. Rolled at Havana’s prestigious El Laguito factory, it remained exclusive until 1982, when the world was finally invited to taste its mastery.

From the elegant Lanceros to the bold Siglo VI and the rare Behike, each vitola showcases rich, complex flavor born from Cuba’s finest leaves. A unique third fermentation sets Cohiba apart, giving it an unmatched smoothness and signature aroma.

Made Totally by Hand with Long Filler, every Cohiba is a statement of tradition and excellence. This is not just a cigar—it’s the crown jewel of Cuban tobacco.

Cohiba is the most prestigious brand in the world of tobacco.

Its history traces back to 1492, during Christopher Columbus’s first voyage to the New World, when his men encountered the indigenous Taíno people of Cuba. The locals offered them a bundle of dried tobacco leaves—what they called Cohiba—smoked through a pipe known as tabaco. This moment marked the first recorded encounter with tobacco, making Cohiba the earliest known name for it.

Centuries later, the Cohiba brand was officially created in 1966. For many years, it was reserved exclusively as a gift for high-ranking Cuban and foreign government officials, including President Fidel Castro himself. It has been produced ever since at the prestigious El Laguito factory in Havana.

In 1982, Cohiba cigars were made available to the public outside diplomatic circles with the release of three vitolas: Lanceros, Coronas Especiales, and Panetelas. In 1989, three more were added—Espléndidos, Robustos, and Exquisitos—completing the now-iconic Línea Clásica (Classic Line). In 1992, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in Cuba, five new vitolas were launched, forming the Línea 1492: Siglo I through Siglo V. The essential Siglo VI was added in 2002.

Cohiba is the only Habanos brand in which three of the four types of tobacco leaves used—seco, ligero, and the rare medio tiempo—undergo a third fermentation in barrels. This exclusive process gives Cohiba cigars their unmatched smoothness and signature aroma.

Only the finest leaves from the top five Vegas de Primera in the San Juan y Martínez and San Luis districts of Vuelta Abajo are selected for Cohiba cigars. This “selection of the selection” ensures a bold, rich character across every blend. Known for their full strength and deep complexity, Cohiba cigars are not for beginners—they are a favorite of seasoned aficionados who demand the best.

In 2007, the Línea Maduro 5 was introduced, featuring three vitolas wrapped in five-year-aged maduro leaf. Then in 2010 came Cohiba Behike, the most exclusive line in the brand’s history, including the Behike 52, Behike 54, and Behike 56—each using the elusive medio tiempo leaf for extraordinary flavor and strength.

Cohiba continues to lead innovation in the world of Habanos. It was the first brand to introduce a Reserva in 2002 and a Gran Reserva in 2009, made with tobacco aged a minimum of three and five years, respectively.

All Cohiba vitolas are made Totally by Hand with Long Filler.
